Moving: Part 6 - The Wonderful and Weird in Our House

When you rent a house, you never really know what you are going to get until you move in. Overall our house is really great, but there are some interesting things about it as well.

1) Wonderful - the floors. If you look back at the pictures that I put up yesterday you will notice the beautiful wood floors in all rooms (except the bathroom, which is tile). I just love them. Eventually I would like to get a few rugs to soften things up a bit, especially in the living room, but overall I really like them.

2) Wonderful - the front door.
It is something that is really pretty and unique to the house. It could use a little tlc on the outer side, but it looks really nice inside the house.

3) Wonderful and Weird - the kitchen cupboards. There are somethings I really like. For example, the spice cupboard.
At least that is what I am using it for. I can't imagine what else you would be able to put in here. It seems custom made to hold spices.

We also have this tip out cupboard.
I would imagine that it originally was intended for flour or potatoes or something like that. We are using it to hold our paper for recycling. There is also a cupboard that has a shelf that pulls out and swings up to counter height. I have my stand mixer on it right now and that works out really well.

There is this random decorative shelf on the dining area side of the "L". I have no idea what to put here, but it looks nice from this side.
And then you open the cupboards behind it. I don't know if you can tell in the picture, but the decorative alcove cuts into the cupboard space.
It means that everything has a pretty specific location in the cupboards since each item only fits in certain places.

But the weirdest thing about the kitchen cupboards is that the counter top is quite short. Like 32" tall. Go measure your cupboards. I bet they are at least a foot taller. So, that does cut out some cupboard space. But, we can work with it. It is sort of nice for me right now. In a typical kitchen I can't get very close to the counter because of my belly. My counter tops fall below my belly, so I can stand nice and close to the counter.

4) Wonderful - The china cabinet. - It is both pretty and really useful
5) Wonderful (at least in how it looks) - the fireplace.
It looks nice, but we have no idea if it actually works yet. It runs on propane and there is no propane tank currently at the house. We might get a little one and hook it up to see if it works sometime, but we just haven't gotten to it yet.

6) Weird - The back toilet cover. Even though it is weird to have a picture of your toilet on your blog, I find this really weird. How do you lose the proper sized toilet cover? And even if it did break or something, how hard is it to get one that actually fits. It is too short and too wide.
7) Weird - the squirrel in the window.
Yep, there is a squirrel painted on one of our living room windows. Apparently and artist lived here before and painted this squirrel. At first I wanted to take it off right away. But it is sort of growing on me. Maybe I should give it a name and embrace it as a part of our family.

Haha...I laughed out loud about the toilet comment...I'll admit, how one would lose such a thing is a great question.

The Best Summer of Our Lives by Rachel Hauck

Twenty years ago, the summer of '77 was supposed to be the best summer of Summer Wilde's life. She and her best friends, Spring, Autumn, and Snow--the Four Seasons--had big plans. But those plans never had a chance. After a teenage prank gone awry, the Seasons found themselves on a bus to Tumbleweed, "Nowhere," Oklahoma, to spend eight weeks as camp counselors. All four of them arrived with hidden secrets and buried fears, and the events that unfolded in those two months forever altered their friendships, their lives, and their futures. Now, thirtysomething, Summer is at a crossroads. When her latest girl band leaves her in a motel outside Tulsa, she is forced to face the shadows of her past. Returning to the place where everything changed, she soon learns Tumbleweed is more than a town she never wanted to see again. It's a place for healing, for reconciling the past with the present, and for finally listening to love's voice. This was an enjoyable book to r...

A Perspective

I have already mentioned my "Word of the Day" screen saver that I have on my laptop that is hooked up to the projector in my room. I am learning that the words go in cycles a bit, so the same word will pop up in several classes during the day. Today's popular word was "entitlement." A fantastic word to share with teenagers who often think they are entitled to a whole lot of stuff. In fact, we as humans often think we are entitled to a whole lot of stuff when really we are fallen people who deserve nothing but death. We so often miss how wonderful and blessed our life really is and we get caught up on the little things. This video sort of puts that in perspective in a rather humorous way. I am by no means promoting this comedian, but if you take what he says to heart, it is so true. We live in an amazing world, created by an amazing God. We really should be happy with the blessing we have been given.

A Little Morning Staycation

So, way back over March Break, the local CBC had several March Break Stay-cation give aways. For the family pass for a Cows Creamery tour, you had call in a moo. My husband called from the barn and was one of the entries chosen to be played on the radio. And he name was also one of the random entries drawn to win the prize. We were supposed to go on a tour of the creamery during March Break, but a crazy snowstorm hit that day. so they told us just to stop in any time during the summer to use our pass. So, we finally went today.  Before we left, we told Joash we had a surprise for him today. "What is it?" he asked. We said that he would have to wait and see. "Is it a silage cart?" he asked. Can you tell what our dinner time conversations have been about lately? We had a nice tour and enjoyed the free samples. We decided to get an early lunch at The Big Orange Lunchbox. Wow! It was very yummy! I am telling you, if you are on PEI and you like a good burger and h...
