19 Months

M(om): Whoa! Joash you are way past your 19 month birthday!

J(oash): I know Mom. And you are really late doing your interview. Here is a cheesy smile with my eyes closed.

M: Umm... thanks. That seems to be about the only sort of picture I can take of you these days. And I know I am late with the interview, but we moved and then didn't have the internet for a while.
J: I know mom, so lets do it now. What would like to know?

M: How do you like your new house?

J: It is great. I love being so close to the farm and Opa and the tractors. I like seeing everything that goes down the road. It is fun to have a new house and yard to explore.

M: What other things do you like to do?

J: Well, I also like watching the birds out the window. But why do they always fly away when I walk up to them?

M:  You are a lot bigger, Joash.
J: I also have 10 teeth now, with more on the way and I am getting good at running. I am having a bit of a tough time  falling asleep in my new rooms, but it is getting better.

M: And you sure are talking a lot. Do you remember what words you learned today?

J: Leaf, Ready and Knock. I like that you know what I am saying. That sure helps me out.

M: I like it too Joash. It helps Mom out a lot too. I like to know when you need a drink, where you want to go and that you can name many of your family members. Well. I think that we will end there. Bye, Joash.

J: Bye!

A Perspective

I have already mentioned my "Word of the Day" screen saver that I have on my laptop that is hooked up to the projector in my room. I am learning that the words go in cycles a bit, so the same word will pop up in several classes during the day. Today's popular word was "entitlement." A fantastic word to share with teenagers who often think they are entitled to a whole lot of stuff. In fact, we as humans often think we are entitled to a whole lot of stuff when really we are fallen people who deserve nothing but death. We so often miss how wonderful and blessed our life really is and we get caught up on the little things. This video sort of puts that in perspective in a rather humorous way. I am by no means promoting this comedian, but if you take what he says to heart, it is so true. We live in an amazing world, created by an amazing God. We really should be happy with the blessing we have been given.

A Little Morning Staycation

So, way back over March Break, the local CBC had several March Break Stay-cation give aways. For the family pass for a Cows Creamery tour, you had call in a moo. My husband called from the barn and was one of the entries chosen to be played on the radio. And he name was also one of the random entries drawn to win the prize. We were supposed to go on a tour of the creamery during March Break, but a crazy snowstorm hit that day. so they told us just to stop in any time during the summer to use our pass. So, we finally went today.  Before we left, we told Joash we had a surprise for him today. "What is it?" he asked. We said that he would have to wait and see. "Is it a silage cart?" he asked. Can you tell what our dinner time conversations have been about lately? We had a nice tour and enjoyed the free samples. We decided to get an early lunch at The Big Orange Lunchbox. Wow! It was very yummy! I am telling you, if you are on PEI and you like a good burger and h...

Band of Sisters by Cathy Gohlke

Starting over. A new life. Better than before. Those were and are the hopes and dreams of so many immigrants throughout the history of the United States. But, so often, these dreams were not realized. And in some cases, the new world brought even more horror. And the worst horror of all is that it is still happening today. Band of  Sisters  by Cathy Gohlke is the powerful and riveting tale of Maureen O’Reilly and her sister Katie Rose. Running from a shameful and difficult life in Ireland, with both of her parents dead, Maureen is looking to start a new life in America. All she wants is to find a respectable job and take care of herself and her sister. Another young man from her home town, Joshua Keeton sails to America on the same ship as Maureen and her sister. He offers to help and watch out for the girls, but Maureen wants nothing to do with him. She soon regrets that decision as she and Katie Rose struggle to make it through Ellis Island. Maureen falls into a tra...
