A Little Bit of This and Little Bit of That

We have had a really busy and different week here so far and Joash has been a bit out of whack because of it. So today, he is taking a good nap, which I think he has needed since Sunday. So just a little update from us.

Joash loves spending time with his dad. He has been going for lots of tractor rides and spending extra time in the barn and that has been fun. Sometimes Dad is pretty tired, though. In these next two pictures, Wilbert is asleep after having a meeting the night before. Imagine Joash talking non-stop and moving all around and driving his loader into Wilbert. Wilbert slept through it all.

I also think Joash misses his Oma and Opa. He wants to go to their house all of the time and yesterday he told me he wanted to go on an airplane and see Oma and Opa. We are glad they are enjoying their time away, but we look forward to them being home again soon.

And, a new pregnancy picture for you. I don't think the stripes are really helping how big my belly looks.
But I am 27 weeks and I am measuring 27, so we are right on track. This baby certainly is an active one and we enjoy watching the ripples across my belly in the evenings after supper. Anyone have any good boy name suggestions? We are running a bit stuck on a boy name. We still really like our girl name from before, so that is no problem. But we are finding boys names really hard. I guess that is part of the problem when you were both teachers.

Ben and I had a hard time with boys names too...everyone that I've talked to seems to have the same problem. Good luck!

A Perspective

I have already mentioned my "Word of the Day" screen saver that I have on my laptop that is hooked up to the projector in my room. I am learning that the words go in cycles a bit, so the same word will pop up in several classes during the day. Today's popular word was "entitlement." A fantastic word to share with teenagers who often think they are entitled to a whole lot of stuff. In fact, we as humans often think we are entitled to a whole lot of stuff when really we are fallen people who deserve nothing but death. We so often miss how wonderful and blessed our life really is and we get caught up on the little things. This video sort of puts that in perspective in a rather humorous way. I am by no means promoting this comedian, but if you take what he says to heart, it is so true. We live in an amazing world, created by an amazing God. We really should be happy with the blessing we have been given.

A Little Morning Staycation

So, way back over March Break, the local CBC had several March Break Stay-cation give aways. For the family pass for a Cows Creamery tour, you had call in a moo. My husband called from the barn and was one of the entries chosen to be played on the radio. And he name was also one of the random entries drawn to win the prize. We were supposed to go on a tour of the creamery during March Break, but a crazy snowstorm hit that day. so they told us just to stop in any time during the summer to use our pass. So, we finally went today.  Before we left, we told Joash we had a surprise for him today. "What is it?" he asked. We said that he would have to wait and see. "Is it a silage cart?" he asked. Can you tell what our dinner time conversations have been about lately? We had a nice tour and enjoyed the free samples. We decided to get an early lunch at The Big Orange Lunchbox. Wow! It was very yummy! I am telling you, if you are on PEI and you like a good burger and h...

Band of Sisters by Cathy Gohlke

Starting over. A new life. Better than before. Those were and are the hopes and dreams of so many immigrants throughout the history of the United States. But, so often, these dreams were not realized. And in some cases, the new world brought even more horror. And the worst horror of all is that it is still happening today. Band of  Sisters  by Cathy Gohlke is the powerful and riveting tale of Maureen O’Reilly and her sister Katie Rose. Running from a shameful and difficult life in Ireland, with both of her parents dead, Maureen is looking to start a new life in America. All she wants is to find a respectable job and take care of herself and her sister. Another young man from her home town, Joshua Keeton sails to America on the same ship as Maureen and her sister. He offers to help and watch out for the girls, but Maureen wants nothing to do with him. She soon regrets that decision as she and Katie Rose struggle to make it through Ellis Island. Maureen falls into a tra...
