Celebration Zone

2014 is a big year on PEI. It marks the 150 anniversary of hte 1864 Charlottetown Conference that led to the creation of Canada. So there are all kinds of different events going on all over the Island to mark this occasion. 

On such event is the Celebration Zone on the waterfront in Charlottetown. It is a place where there are shows happening each day with lots of different musical guest and other sorts of performers. There is a kids section with bouncy houses and crafts and games. And it is all free!

Joash has been talking about going to the Celebration Zone ever since a booklet with the schedule for the summer came in the mail. We had tried to go once before, but the gates were not opening on time, so we didn't stick around. So, we gave it another go this week and we checked it all out.

 Any time Joash talked about the Celebration Zone, the thing he said he was the most excited for was the bouncy house. But, knowing my timid boy, I wondered if he actually would go in it when the time came. When we first arrived, the bouncy house was quite busy and Joash realized that he would have to go in with other kids. That was not what he thought it was going to be like. So we took some time, walked around some more, watched a bit of the show and just got used to the space. And then we noticed the bouncy houses were not nearly as busy. There were still kids in it, but there was no line. And to my surprise and delight, Joash did it! He went in the bouncy house and bounced. Here is proof:

And he wants to go again. We hope to go again while my parents are here next week, so that will be fun for all, I hope.

Sounds like such a great time for your family to celebrate on PEI~when Ally & I visited, she came home with her own Anne of Green Gables hat and it still hangs in her room here in Michigan.

I have already mentioned my "Word of the Day" screen saver that I have on my laptop that is hooked up to the projector in my room. I am learning that the words go in cycles a bit, so the same word will pop up in several classes during the day. Today's popular word was "entitlement." A fantastic word to share with teenagers who often think they are entitled to a whole lot of stuff. In fact, we as humans often think we are entitled to a whole lot of stuff when really we are fallen people who deserve nothing but death. I am by no means promoting this comedian, but if you take what he says to heart, it is so true. We live in an amazing world, created by an amazing God. Birthday Fun

It was my birthday on Saturday, so Wilbert asked me what I wanted to do. Since it was nice weather, I decided to have a picnic in the park. We opted for the easy picnic and picked up Subway and headed to the Elliot River Dream Park. It was a lovely day. After our lunch, Wilbert and Joash explored the park. They found musical instruments...  played a bit of hide and seek...  and tried out the slides. Joash did pretty good in the park, but he is still pretty timid and cautious over all. He never really dared to go down a slide by himself, but he was running around on his own by the end. After we were finished at the park, we stopped for dessert at Cows Ice Cream since we didn't get an ice cream cone we went earlier in the week. It was very tasty! In the evening, we had a bonfire and invited lots of people over. At 5 in the afternoon, we had a crazy thundershower pop up right over us and it rained like crazy.
