Why Haven't I Heard of These People Before?

I used to think that I was really on top of things when it came to the Christian music scene. I knew all of the new bands and songs and enjoyed them all. But, I have found my new favorite at the Calvin Worship Symposium - Keith and Kristyn Getty.

I didn't really know who they were, so I didn't sign up for their session. But, then they led us in worship at the first large worship service and wow! They were awesome. Then I learned that they wrote this song I know. You may have heard of it too. It is called "In Christ Alone."

How come I didn't know who wrote "In Christ Alone," probably one of the top five worship songs to have some out in the last 10 years. And here they were, leading us in worship. So cool!

They are fantastic for lots of reasons. First, they are Irish, so they have cool accents. Second, they write songs that are very singable. They call themselves "modern hymn writers" which makes a lot of sense. Their songs are great for congregational worship singing. Third, their songs also have fantastic lyrics, which speak to the English teacher in me. Finally, their violinist grew up in Iowa, which is the third best state after Michigan and Minnesota.

I would encourage you to look up some of their stuff on Youtube. But here are two of my favorite songs for you enjoyment.

A Perspective

I have already mentioned my "Word of the Day" screen saver that I have on my laptop that is hooked up to the projector in my room. I am learning that the words go in cycles a bit, so the same word will pop up in several classes during the day. Today's popular word was "entitlement." A fantastic word to share with teenagers who often think they are entitled to a whole lot of stuff. In fact, we as humans often think we are entitled to a whole lot of stuff when really we are fallen people who deserve nothing but death. We so often miss how wonderful and blessed our life really is and we get caught up on the little things. This video sort of puts that in perspective in a rather humorous way. A Little Morning Staycation

So, way back over March Break, the local CBC had several March Break Stay-cation give aways. For the family pass for a Cows Creamery tour, you had call in a moo. My husband called from the barn and was one of the entries chosen to be played on the radio. And he name was also one of the random entries drawn to win the prize. We were supposed to go on a tour of the creamery during March Break, but a crazy snowstorm hit that day. so they told us just to stop in any time during the summer to use our pass.
