Moving: Part 6 - The Wonderful and Weird in Our House

When you rent a house, you never really know what you are going to get until you move in. Overall our house is really great, but there are some interesting things about it as well.

1) Wonderful - the floors. If you look back at the pictures that I put up yesterday you will notice the beautiful wood floors in all rooms (except the bathroom, which is tile). I just love them. Eventually I would like to get a few rugs to soften things up a bit, especially in the living room, but overall I really like them.

2) Wonderful - the front door.
It is something that is really pretty and unique to the house. It could use a little tlc on the outer side, but it looks really nice inside the house.

3) Wonderful and Weird - the kitchen cupboards. There are somethings I really like. For example, the spice cupboard.
At least that is what I am using it for. I can't imagine what else you would be able to put in here. It seems custom made to hold spices.

We also have this tip out cupboard.
I would imagine that it originally was intended for flour or potatoes or something like that. We are using it to hold our paper for recycling. There is also a cupboard that has a shelf that pulls out and swings up to counter height. I have my stand mixer on it right now and that works out really well.

There is this random decorative shelf on the dining area side of the "L". I have no idea what to put here, but it looks nice from this side.
And then you open the cupboards behind it. I don't know if you can tell in the picture, but the decorative alcove cuts into the cupboard space.
It means that everything has a pretty specific location in the cupboards since each item only fits in certain places.

But the weirdest thing about the kitchen cupboards is that the counter top is quite short. Like 32" tall. Go measure your cupboards. I bet they are at least a foot taller. So, that does cut out some cupboard space. But, we can work with it. It is sort of nice for me right now. In a typical kitchen I can't get very close to the counter because of my belly. My counter tops fall below my belly, so I can stand nice and close to the counter.

4) Wonderful - The china cabinet. - It is both pretty and really useful
5) Wonderful (at least in how it looks) - the fireplace.
It looks nice, but we have no idea if it actually works yet. It runs on propane and there is no propane tank currently at the house. We might get a little one and hook it up to see if it works sometime, but we just haven't gotten to it yet.

6) Weird - The back toilet cover. Even though it is weird to have a picture of your toilet on your blog, I find this really weird. How do you lose the proper sized toilet cover? And even if it did break or something, how hard is it to get one that actually fits. It is too short and too wide.
7) Weird - the squirrel in the window.
Yep, there is a squirrel painted on one of our living room windows. Apparently and artist lived here before and painted this squirrel. At first I wanted to take it off right away. But it is sort of growing on me. Maybe I should give it a name and embrace it as a part of our family.

Haha...I laughed out loud about the toilet comment...I'll admit, how one would lose such a thing is a great question.

Planning for 2018

So about this time of the year last year, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and finally came to the conclusion that I was not keeping very good track of things and my life. So, I bought and planner and I love it. But, in my search for a planner, I kept thinking there has to be something that can not only help me plan well, but also help and encourage me spiritually. Then, last year Jamie Ivey highlighted Anchored Press in her 2016 Gift Giving Guide. And I knew I was going to be getting a planner from Anchored Press for 2018.
And it has arrived! And I love it!

I am so excited to start using this planner in the new year. I hope that it will help encourage me in all areas of my life.

Coming Home from Michigan

Following the Truck Parade, we spent a bit of time at a park near Nick and Dawn's house. And then off to airport.
We were nicely on time. Check-in went fine, but a little longer because of Gideon not being connected to our family. Security was a breeze and we were soon on our way and in Detroit. We easily found our gate in Detroit, had a 10 minute delay for boarding, but soon enough we were on the plane.
And that it when the bottom fell out.
While on the plane, the pilots revived notice that Toronto was shut down due to weather. We waited about 20-30 minutes on the plane. They gave us snacks. Then they had us get off the plane and wait in the terminal. Every 30 minutes or so we would be updated that we were still delayed. And we were watching dark clouds and lightening roll into the area surround Detroit, too. Soon, the Detroit airport was shut down too. They brought out snacks and drinks a few different times, but finally around 10 pm (so over 5 hours of being delayed in the a…

L.M Montgomery's Beginning and End

My birthday present to myself this year was to join the Modern Mrs. Darcy Book Club. It is an online book club and I am so excited to be a part of it. I haven't been in book club in a long time, mostly because all of the invitations I get usually end with, "and at our meetings, we usually don't talk about the book very much, so it doesn't matter if you read it or not." What is the point of a book club if you are not actually going to talk about the book? So, anyway, I am excited to be a part of a community of people who read as much as I do and like to talk about what they read.
I was even more excited when I learned that the pick for November was going to be Emily of New Moon. And since I have lived on PEI for almost 7 years and had yet to visit L. M. Montgomery's Birthplace, I figured it was high time. So the kids and I hopped in the van this afternoon and drove through some lovely countryside to New London, PEI.

The little home is full of all sorts of Mo…
